A NEW Look For Gopher Football?

One of the biggest social media stories in college football this year (outside of anything hashtagged #PennState #Sandusky #JoePa or #theBCSsucks), was new uniform designs being unveiled for "specialty games". Nike's Pro Combat line selects a few teams each year to showcase some crazy uniforms. Some are really cool, some are awful. Then, just because they can't be outdone by Nike, Under Armour unvails AWFUL Maryland uniforms...which ultimately became their STANDARD uniforms. Since our world seems to be driven by Facebook and Twitter, it was a genius marketing decision. Under Armour does deserve credit for the other Maryland uniforms, which are much more badass.

But what do these uniform changes really do for the players and fans? Do they actually make teams play better? Do they make fans more excited? Do they sell more tickets? We know they sell more uniforms, which is great...but how come the Gophers are always the last team to make a drastic change to their uniforms? Maybe it was Jim Whacker's ridiculious decision to go with Notre Dame gold (on top of a terrible overall uniform design) vs the standard "Gopher Gold". Heck, even Colorado made a rad move this year vs USC when they came out of the tunnel with black helmets, when they had worn their traditional gold helmets during warm ups.

This made me think of what the Gophers could do to build some excitement. You would hope that something as minor as new uniforms would excite players and fans...but in today's world, I think it does. And the University of Minnesota needs all the excitement it can get. So, with that said...here is what I would like the Gophers to do for next year's home gave vs Michigan:

Wear their traditional maroon and gold uniforms for warm ups...and come running out of the tunnel in the photos below:
